All hell breaks loose on Halloween when a powerful spell is cast and black magic sweeps across the US. Anyone who was wearing a costume is turned into the person or creature they were pretending to be. Evil clowns, pirates, shapeshifters, zombies and many other types of monsters run amok, preying on anyone who can’t fight back.
Xiara Evora was just a normal girl with a normal name before the curse struck. Now she is a hunter of evil monsters and bad guys. It’s her job to save anyone who needs her help and she feels compelled to live up to her creed. She has a trusty staff called Wrath who can kill anything, whether it’s alive, dead or undead. The weapon is bound to her and he’s imbued with the soul of a grim reaper, which makes him sentient.
Xiara and the rest of the hexed are drawn to Nox, the City of Night where the Immortal Triumvirate rules. The unholy trinity created the Night Cursed, but it’s unclear why, or what their intentions are. The only thing Xiara is sure of is that they are all trapped in this city and that there is no way out.
Xiara Evora’s job as the Guardian of Nox is more complex than she’d ever anticipated. Not that she’d applied for the role. Her backstory was to blame, so she’d brought this on herself. She’d decided she was a hunter of monsters and bad guys and it had become her entire existence.
Nox, otherwise known as the City of Night, was a hodgepodge of human magic users, vampires, shifters, fae beings, vampires and various other types of monsters. None of them got along well, which was why the city was divided into five different Districts. Xiara patrolled them all in her effort to keep the peace, except for the Demon District that lay in the catacombs beneath Nox. Only someone with a death wish would enter their domain without an invitation.
When a new type of being enters Nox, things soon begin to change. Although there are a lot of Night Cursed deities, they aren’t real. They’re just pale imitations and they have little power. Xiara has a feeling that the minor god is going to become far more of a pest than he first appears. The delicate balance between the Districts is already unstable. The last thing the City of Night needs is a trickster to shake things up. If he breaks too many laws, the Immortal Triumvirate will order her to use her trusty staff to end his existence. Not even a true deity can survive Wrath’s deathly power.
As time wears on in Nox, the Night Cursed beings are becoming more and more shunned and ostracized by the uncursed population. Mistrust is rising in all of the Districts and Xiara Evora is right in the middle of it. It’s her job to keep the peace in the City of Night, but her task is getting harder with each passing year.
Crowmon, the trickster god, and Raum, the leader of the demons, have gained a lot of power over the years. Xiara suspects they are searching for a way to increase their standing even more, but she isn’t sure what their plans are. All she knows is that they’ll do anything to increase their influence and that they don’t care who will get hurt in the process.
Xiara and her team make new friends and allies who will help them with their quest to save the Night Cursed from the Immortal Triumvirate. The unholy trinity fears treachery and they’re aware that someone will eventually try to topple them from their reign. Their solution to avoid their unwanted fate will have consequences that no one could have foreseen.
The Guardian of Nox is asked to search for a missing witch who just happens to be one of Crowmon’s priestesses. It’s news to Xiara that the trickster god has holy men and women worshipping him, but she has little choice but to help. Her job is to assist people in need, after all, even if they’re the bad guys.
During Xiara’s investigation, she uncovers a conspiracy that goes deeper than she’d realized. The unrest in the City of Night has grown worse and all of the Districts are becoming unstable. It won’t take much to tip the balance and for an all-out war to begin.
Xiara and her team know that rebels will rise to stand against the Immortal Triumvirate. Quilla has foreseen that their hated rulers can be beaten, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll fall. Any chance is better than none, so the motley team of Night Cursed beings vow to assist these insurgents any way they can.
Eden never asked to become a member of the secret Assassin Guild. She was born in captivity, so to speak, and was raised to become a killer for the Immortal Triumvirate. She hates what she is and what she needs to do to survive. Like her colleagues, she’s a half breed. One half is a fairy, but the other half is what makes her such a good assassin. She’s a succubus and she can entrance her victims and siphon their lives away in a matter of minutes.
Sebastian, former lord of the Vampire Council, has come to Nox to seek revenge on his nemesis. Lord Kreaton had been his friend before he’d used Sebastian as a scapegoat and had accused him of murdering his entire kiss. The master vampire finds the City of Night to be even stranger than he’d ever imagined. He’d realized his old enemy had become far too powerful for him to defeat alone and had formed an unlikely trinity of his own. Now he must rely on his alliance with a warlock and a demon to destroy Lord Kreaton and his cronies.
Eden longs for freedom from her masters and seeks the wisdom of a Night Cursed gypsy to try to gain some insight into her future. Madam Quilla foresees the assassin meeting a tall, dark and handsome stranger who will change her life forever. If the succubus can learn to learn trust the enigmatic bloodsucker, they could both end up having their hopes and desires fulfilled along with their common goal to rid Nox of the Immortal Triumvirate.
Eden is still working on freeing herself from the control of her evil overlords, but it’s proving to be harder than she’d hoped. The prediction Madam Quilla foretold for her future still hasn’t come true. She is drawn to the disturbingly sexy master vampire who keeps turning up to rescue her, but he doesn’t seem to be the answer to her problems.
Sebastian has tried to forget about the woman who has ensnared him with her beauty. She is a distraction from his goal to seek revenge on his nemesis, yet he can’t get her out of his mind. His only choice is to seduce her so he can get her out of his system, then focus on his mission to find a suitable partner to become bonded to.
Eden resorts to seeking out an exiled fairy for assistance. She discovers the spell Lord Dallinar cast on her is going to be harder to destroy than she’d figured. She will need someone who can use black magic to dispel it. That means she’ll have to deal with someone who is just as evil as the fae lord who bound her power. The assassin will do whatever she has to in order to be free, even if it means teaming up with a creature no sane person would trust.
Sorcha can’t believe her best friend, Eden, is dead. The sorceress assassin vows to seek vengeance on the man who killed her friend. The only problem is that she doesn’t know who is responsible for the succubus’ demise. Asking the Immortal Triumvirate for answers is the last thing she wants to do, but they are the only ones who might be able to help her identify the culprit.
Kade Sinclair has spent the past three months searching for his match. Sebastian, his vampire master ally, was lucky enough to find a beautiful succubus to be his partner. Kade can only hope he’ll find a mate as capable and dangerous as Eden. His interest is piqued by a mysterious blonde woman he sees when a murder is committed practically under his nose. She’s just as gorgeous as Eden, but she doesn’t have enough magic to boost his strength. He’ll just have to keep looking while searching for the ingredients he needs to use in a spell against the Immortal Triumvirate.
The sorceress embarks on a quest to unlock her full potential that was blocked by Lord Dallinar when she was an infant. Madam Quilla Astrid, a Night Cursed gypsy fortune teller, foresees that Sorcha has an important destiny. If what the mystic says is true, the assassin will not just free herself from her overlords, she’ll find a powerful match during the process.
Sorcha is still hunting for the magic user who can free her from her slavery to the Immortal Triumvirate. Now that she’s the only assassin left, she has to perform all of the murders her evil overlords deem to be necessary. Receiving two missions at once has proven to be a trial. The sorceress fears what might happen if she is sent three kill orders at the same time.
Kade Sinclair can’t get the beautiful blonde witch out of his mind. Sorcha is exactly the type of woman he’s been hoping to become bound to. The only problem is that she doesn’t possess enough strength to boost his power. The warlock knows he should continue to search for his potential match, but his heart is telling him Sorcha is the right person for him.
Crowmon has left his old persona of a trickster god behind. He’s embracing his new identity of a carrion deity, but he longs to achieve his full destiny. If everything continues to go according to plan, he’s confident that he will eventually gain enough power to take his place as the rightful ruler of Nox.
Born in the underground prison beneath Nox, Ember was sent to live in the Demon District where she would be among her own kind. Kept in a cage her entire life, the demoness burns to get revenge on the demon lord who is responsible for her slavery. After her master is assassinated, she gains her freedom and begins to hunt Raum down.
Raum’s search for a suitable partner isn’t going well. A hideous hell spawn keeps slaughtering the women he approaches. The Demon Guild Master will need to find a way to eliminate the wily minion before he will be able to become bonded to a powerful and dangerous female.
As she stalks her target, Ember becomes aware of the intrigues and powerplays that are going on within the City of Night. She already knows the Immortal Triumvirate are lousy rulers, but they could very well be just as malevolent as her own kind. Raum might not be the only one who needs to be eradicated, but taking down the creators of Nox is a task that’s beyond her abilities. If she had more power, she would stand a better chance, but that would entail joining forces with the evilest being in the entire city.
Now that Raum has finally found his match, he will have to do whatever it takes to convince Ember to become bound to him. The demoness won’t be easy to win over. Especially after the unfortunate incident when he’d tortured her. The Demon Guild Master isn’t going to give up on what he wants. He’s determined to make Ember his, so they can face the Immortal Triumvirate together.
Ember trusts Raum about as far as she can throw him. Deep down, she knows she can’t take the rulers of Nox on alone. The Immortal Triumvirate need to be eradicated and the rebels have the best chance of pulling it off. That doesn’t mean she’s going to make things easy for the demon lord. He’ll have to prove he’s trustworthy first, which will be difficult for him to achieve.
Halloween is only a few months away now. If Raum doesn’t manage to convince Ember to become his mate, the rebels’ plans will fail. Another triumvirate is also scheming to rule Nox. Guild Master Onvier, Nilanthy and their demonic third, Azazel, are slowly growing in power. The rebels now have two trinities to fight if they wish to save the City of Night from its perilous fate.
Fifty years have passed since the fateful night the Immortal Triumvirate cast a curse that affected millions of people. The victims were turned into the Halloween costumes they were wearing at the time the hex struck. The poor souls were torn from their normal lives and were drawn to Nox to become the batteries that powered the magical City of Night.
Factions have been scheming in the Vampire, Fae, Shifter and Demon Districts since the very beginning of the city’s creation. Many of the rebels have been eradicated by the Immortal Triumvirate’s assassins, but they couldn’t wipe them all out. Xiara Evora, the Guardian of Nox, has also killed some of their foes with the aid of her trusty staff, Wrath.
The rebels have formed their own triumvirate. They plan to challenge their enemies during the upcoming party to celebrate the city’s fiftieth anniversary. Sebastian, Kade and Raum aren’t the only ones who have formed a union. Onvier, Azazel and Nilanthy have also become bound. A trio of trinities are all vying for rulership of the City of Night.
Crowmon has evolved from a trickster god into something far darker and infinitely more dangerous. He’s determined to rule the city and to subjugate everyone to his will. War is coming to Nox. The fate of the entire population and the city itself will soon hang in the balance.
